Breathe In Breathe Out
Throughout his life, Andy recalls having seen people in the darkness of depression or the frightening chaos of an anxiety attack. The best advice they would be given was to “take deep breaths.” Though no doubt well-meaning, the exchange seems to represent an inauthentic empathy. This piece depicts the imagined futility of deep breathing in the throes of suffocation, be it actual or psychological.
