Dirty And Gritty

As Andy tells it, one of the things that “killed” the Catskills (where he has lived and worked for 40 years) is the in-home Air Conditioning. Before they were installed in homes, people would come upstate for its cool nighttimes. After cooling units, there was no need. This piece is inspired by this and other industrial changes New York City has undergone in the last century or so. Its title is taken from The Lovin’ Spoonful’s 1966 lyrics for “Summer in the City,” “Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty.”
